The objects of the club are to foster Friendship, Goodwill and Understanding and to provide opportunities for members to keep in touch with educational, scientific and social aspects of life. Membership is open to men of goodwill without reference to age, situation of residence, who have fully retired or partially retired from their normal occupation.  We have no Political, Religious, Charity or other affiliations.

Meetings are held fortnightly, (from September to April), on Thursday mornings at 10.00 am  at Broughton Parish Hall, Broadway, Fulwood, PRESTON Lancashire

That’s the Official Line but in reality Probus is about providing all the good bits of being at work like chatting, swapping information, mutual understanding, information gathering, social events, new experiences etc. but excluding all the bad bits like office politics, clients and customers,

Retirement can come too early for many people who want and are able to remain active.

Probus clubs are organizations for men who have retired from their profession or business and want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests.

Each Probus club is sponsored by a Rotary Club and meets at least once a month for fellowship and to hear guest speakers. Today, there are over 300,000 members in approximately 4,000 Probus clubs worldwide.  Potential Probus members are not required to be past members of Rotary.  Not all Probus are organised in the same way as we are,, in fact, each Probus Club “does it’s own thing”.

Once established, the Probus club becomes an autonomous organization and its members take over leadership. Most importantly, wives and partners are very supportive of Probus membership for their men folk.  It gets them out of the way while they “get on” and they get taken out two or three times a year.

The name PROBUS is said to come from PROfessional and BUSiness.  However it is rumoured that it comes from either Prostate Removed and Other Bits Under Scrutiny or Pensioner, Retired, Old, Buggered and Useless for Sex.
Our current membership is drawn from an area within ten or fifteen miles of Preston including Fulwood, Broughton, South Ribble, Chorley and beyond.

HOW WE ARE ORGANISED
The Clubs Officers (Click Here for details) and Committee members organise things.  The core activity is the speaker programme, once a fortnight from September to May.  There are other events, like the summer Bowling Competitions, May Outing and Ladies Day Lunch, that take place regularly, but there is nothing to stop the development of other activities should members support them.  Members pay £25 per year subscription, buy the odd raffle ticket, and pay for any events they take part in at cost.

Our meeting Place is on the other side of the A6 to Preston Royal Hospital.

FROM THE NORTH. From the M6/M55 Junction at Broughton, Head towards Preston on the A6.  After passing the fire station and just at the shops turn Right into Broadway, just before the traffic lights at the Black Bull.

FROM THE SOUTH. From Preston head North on the A6 to the traffic lights at The Black Bull.  Take first Left, after the lights into Broadway.

BE AWARE that Broadway southbound to Black Bull Lane is one way southbound.
