Access to “Members Only” Pages
This page is available for members to pass on gossip, information, in fact anything of interest to other members.  Because the site is being updated in the summer months when only the Bowling creates any news, the page is a bit empty!

However,  you can use the links on this page to get up to the second Local, Regional and National news - and the long term Weather Forecast.

Most of us have been on holiday and from what I hear have had a common problem - Travel Insurance.  The insurance companies don’t seem to want to insure the over sixties, and definitely don’t want to Insure the over seventies, and if your over seventy and  have a complaint as life threatening as a runny nose you’ve had it. completely.  Let me know if you managed to get decent travel insurance at a decent price.
WHAT MEMBERS ARE UP TO
Our members get up to some strange things during the summer months.
One member could be found driving a high powered Ferrari round Knockhill Racing Circuit at speeds in excess of 140mph.  Not bad for an 84 year old.  More
We’ve all forgotten about it.  I know I had.  What with the Japanese Nuclear Power Station falling down in an earthquake and the collapse of the banks, we can be excused.  But if I say one word, “Chernobyl”, we soon remember.  However, because it’s out of the news we think it’s all over, but it’s not.  Thousands of people are still suffering as a result of the disaster.
Of course there are the direct results of radiation and such with long term disability and sickness, but there are also significant problems because the local economy was agriculture and nuclear power, both of which have now gone down the drain.  The young people of the district have suffered more than most.  One of our number has spent some of his summer hosting just such a young girl here in the UK.  It gives her a break from all the problems she has, problems we can’t even imagine, and it gives him a great satisfaction to know that he is doing just that little bit of good that might make all the difference.   More
The Long Distance walkers have been at it again. 10 miles to warm up and then their ready for the next 20.  One of our members completed the Three Peaks in 8hrs 30min, all 26 miles of it, with Yorkshires three biggest hills in the way! More

DRIVERS BEWARE

The POLICE are warning drivers about the use of CRUISE CONTROL in wet weather.  It appears that when the roads are wet if you use cruise control you are far more susceptible to aquaplaning.  Most of use use cruise control to maintain a constant speed, and I for one, assumed that this would be a better option in ice and wet weather.  It is not so, and there are sound technical reasons for this I’m told.  The police have noted the increased number of cruise control related incidents recently.  One manufacturer has modified its cars so that cruise control is off when the windscreen wipers are on.

This is something I heard about but have not yet tried.   When it’s raining hard and the wipers are on fast, I always still have difficulty seeing through the rain.  I’m told, that by some weird freak, if you put sun glasses on you can see much better.  I’ve not had the chance to try it yet, but it did work for me on the motorway when the lorries were creating so much spray that seeing was very difficult.
