You can attend three PROBUS meetings as a guest of one of our members and try it out for yourself. It’s a FREE invite so make the most of it.
Your host will make sure that you know all you need to know and introduce you to others. You will not be alone in a crowded room wondering what is going to happen next. After three meetings your host will, if asked, probably nominate you for membership and the rest is up to you.
Remember that the people in that room are, or have been, in the same position

When I was first asked if I wanted to join Probus I was somewhat unsure about it. When I was told that it was a group of retired professionals who meet for a chat and a presentation every couple of weeks during the Autumn and Winter, I was even more unsure. Not my scene at all. I resisted all attempts to surround myself with old “fuddy duddies” and listen to someone rambling on about Beethoven's fifth or how to change a tap washer.
I finally gave in when I was offered the chance to try it for 3 meetings. I could always opt out.
What a surprise I had. I met up with a couple of guys that I had not seen for years and the hour of the presentation flashed by - I was transfixed. Since then I go along whenever I can. The presenters have taken me riding a Harley across America, and a bicycle to Chernobyl. I’ve been given fantastic insights into the bird life of the Ribble Estuary and into the life of a wartime pilot. I rarely fail to lose myself in the topic even the most unusual ones like a minister talking about Jelly Babies. If the thought of that puts you off, think again I promise you that an hour of your life will flash by and you will wish you had taken notes.
I now look forward to the Autumn and Winter months and the alternate Thursday morning meetings. We take turns to drive and the car is always full of banter. In my chats with other members I’ve picked up information on all sorts of things, a lot of them useful little tips . It should not have surprised me that there is such a wealth of knowledge in that room because I’m aware that there are retired Doctors and Decorators and Judges and Electricians, all kinds of people that have only two things in common. Firstly, they are all retired men, and secondly, whilst some may be “getting on a bit”, I’ve yet to meet a “fuddy duddy”.
ANOTHER MEMBER TELLS US :
I was invited by a member to attend a Probus meeting in September 2007 and was made most welcome, and I enjoyed the talk.
In October 2007 I became a member of Preston Forum Probus Club, and I have made new friends, and have found the talks very diverse, interesting, and informative.
Preston Forum also arrange during the season two lunches in various locations to which the ladies are invited, and my wife enjoys the functions.
During the summer months, July/August three crown green bowling competitions are arranged, one internal for members / wives, and two on an away / home basis with Brooks Probus Club of Goosnargh; very relaxed, fun events.
To anyone interested I commend Preston Forum Probus Club to you.
